Bournemouth have signed winger, Justin Kluivert from AS Roma in a £10.35m transfer.

Kluivert becomes the club’s first signing under new manager, Andoni Iraola who took charge on Monday (19 June), just hours after Gary O’Neil’s unexpected shock sacking stunned the footballing world – having kept the Cherries in the Premier League last season with a 15th-placed finish.

Bournemouth Chief Executive, Neill Blake is “delighted” to secure Kluivert who has played in five of Europe’s top six countries, having fought off serious competition and iterated that “his arrival is a sign of his ambition, which is matched by ours.”

On what Kluivert will add to the team, Blake commented: “Justin is an exciting and versatile attacking player who has an eye for goal. He is pacey, direct and boasts a high level of technical ability.

“Although he only recently turned 24, Justin has a wealth of experience and has played domestically at the highest level in five different countries.

“He has also played in the Champions League and Europa League as well as being capped by his country at senior level.”

Bournemouth have paid an initial £9.5m transfer fee but £850k in add-ons will take the total transfer fee up to £10.35m, with Kluivert signing a five-year contract until June 2028.

The 24 year-old Dutch winger began his career at Ajax where he graduated through their academy to score 13 goals in 56 appearances, before he was signed by Roma in June 2018 where he managed nine goals in 68 appearances.

Kluivert however fell out of favour at Roma during the 2020-21 season with just two senior appearances and has since spent the last three seasons out on loan at; RB Leipzig, Nice and Valencia where he scored 18 goals in 87 total appearances across those three clubs.

Kluivert’s first competitive appearance for Bournemouth will come at home to West Ham on 12 August as the new Premier League season commences.
