League One’s Burton Albion host Leicester City in the headline tie of 2023-24 Carabao Cup Round One draw.
Enzo Maresca’s newly relegated Foxes face a tricky visit to Burton in a second Midlands derby in the space of three days, with the Foxes already facing Coventry in their Championship season-opener on Sunday 6 August.
Neil Warnock’s Huddersfield will host his former team, Middlesbrough in the Northern Section in one of three all-Championship contests across the Northern and Southern Sections of the draw, alongside West Brom and Norwich’s visits to Stoke and QPR respectively.
Wrexham will host Wigan at The Racecourse Ground in their first League Cup match since 2007-08 season.
Down in the Southern Section, newly relegated Southampton – who reached the semi-finals last season – face a tricky trip to League Two’s Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium.
League One’s Cheltenham Town will be hoping to cause a cupset at home to two-time winners, Birmingham City at Whaddon Road.
Last season’s only Quarter-Finalist from outside of the Premier League, Charlton Athletic face a difficult visit to Newport County, who have a habit of causing cupsets against higher-level opposition in cup competitions.
First Round ties will be played across 8-9 August with Sky set to announce their televised picks in due course.
12 Premier League who failed to qualify for Europe will join the First Round winners in the Second Round, with the eight top-flight clubs who have qualified for European competitions entering at the Third Round stage alongside Second Round winners.
