Greece have no fresh injury concerns with Hull’s Dimitris Pelkas, Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas, Norwich’s Dimitris Giannoulis and Sheffield United’s George Baldock amongst those called up for this qualifier.

Ireland have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad available for selection, as Brighton’s Evan Ferguson prepares to lead the attack.

When is Kick-Off?

Greece host Republic of Ireland at Agia Sophia Stadium, Athens, on Friday 16 June in a 9:45pm CET (7:45pm UK Time), with Viaplay Xtra broadcasting the fixture live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Greece are unbeaten in three previous meetings against Republic of Ireland (W2, D1), although this is their first-ever competitive clash.
  • Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 in their only previous visit to Greece in a friendly fixture in November 2002.
  • Greece are yet to concede against Republic of Ireland in all competitions.
  • Greece are unbeaten in their last five matches at home across all competitions (W3, D2).
  • Ireland are unbeaten in three of their last five away games in all competitions (W2, D1, L2).

Prediction

With just one defeat in their last five matches across all competitions, Greece are certainly in solid form with clean sheets in their last two games which should create a defensive challenge for their Irish opposition to break down.

Ireland though do boast excellent attacking quality which I do expect them to maximise with a more attack-minded display, following a tough defeat to France in their last outing because they did play well but just lacked that end product to clinically convert their chances.

This clash also is the first time that both teams will be competitively facing each other – having previously met in friendlies, so I do expect this to be a tough game given the quality on offer within both teams and a draw might be a fair result.

Prediction: Greece 1-1 ROI

Result: Greece 2-1 ROI
