Norwich City have signed defender, Shane Duffy on a free transfer from Fulham.

Duffy’s move comes after just one season at Fulham where he made just seven appearances, having initially joined the Cottagers on loan from Brighton before his move was made permanent in January.

The Irish defender’s move to Norwich also sees him return to England’s second-tier for the first time since he helped Brighton claim promotion in 2016-17 season to the Premier League.

Speaking about his decision to drop down to the Championship after discussions with Head Coach, David Wagner, Duffy said: “As soon as I first heard about it, I’ve been excited. I spoke with the head coach, and some people at the club, and they’ve really made me excited about this opportunity.

“I know it’s a great club, a lot of Irish connection as well with a few players here and they speak very highly about the club.”

On his decision to drop down a division, Duffy added: “I’m ready for a new chapter in my career. And I’m excited to help the team get back to the Premier League.”

Wagner meanwhile is “delighted” to sign Duffy who he hopes can bring his “vast amount of experience,” to the team as Norwich look to challenge for promotion.

The ex Huddersfield manager also added that he is “confident” that Duffy will “be a great fit for our squad” whilst bringing “not only the on-field qualities that we have been looking for, but leadership and desire to help drive our club forward.”
