Brentford chase an unlikely Europa Conference League spot against reigning champions, Manchester City at Gtech Community Stadium.
Victory would see Brentford snatch the final European qualification spot if Aston Villa and Tottenham both fail to win elsewhere.
Man City meanwhile have nothing left to play for aside from momentum heading into two cup finals in the next fortnight.
Team News
Brentford have no fresh injury concerns to report following their comeback win at Tottenham last weekend, with Bryan Mbeumo amongst those set to retain their places in the line-up.
Pontus Jansson (hamstring), Christian Norgaard (Achilles), Ivan Toney (suspension) and Keane Lewis-Potter (knee) remain absent.
Man City manager, Pep Guardiola could rotate his squad after their 1-1 draw at Brighton in midweek, although Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and Jack Grealish will all be rested due to a drop in match fitness.
Phil Foden meanwhile is a doubt after he suffered a knock against Brighton.
Nathan Ake (hamstring) is a doubt and won’t be risked except potentially as a late substitute if he is fit enough for the bench.
When is Kick-Off?
Brentford host Man City at Gtech Community Stadium in a 4:30pm BST kick-off on Sunday 28 May, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Brentford have won just one of three previous Premier League meetings against Man City (W1, L2).
- Man City won 1-0 in their only previous Premier League visit to Brentford in December 2021 (W1).
- City’s Phil Foden has scored in two of his three appearances against Brentford.
- Each of Brentford’s last five goals have been scored by the combination of Bryan Mbeumo (3) and Yoane Wissa (2).
- Man City have lost just one six league visits to London-based clubs this season (W5, L1).
Prediction
Although any chances of Europa Conference League qualification are largely out of their hands, Brentford can at least keep up the pressure on Villa and Tottenham by winning here if they can play with the same intensity and counter-attacking which saw them stun Spurs from behind.
Man City meanwhile will have their eyes firmly on the FA Cup Final next weekend so I do expect changes here, which could well mean a similar line-up to the one which scraped past Chelsea last weekend in an otherwise wasteful performance before scrapping to a draw at Brighton with squad rotation.
If that is the case for City then I do give Brentford a serious chance of doing the league double if they can deliver another quality display, where clinical end product could be key against Guardiola Cityzens who seem to enjoy visiting London this season.
In fact, I don’t see Guardiola taking many risks given that this is basically a dead rubber for his team whereas Brentford will be hungry for the win to give themselves a shot at Europe, which could well suit them because City’s priorities lie elsewhere at present.
Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Manchester City
Result: Brentford 1-0 Manchester City
