Mercedes have unveiled future plans to expand their F1 factory in Brackley, UK.
Since 2017, Mercedes have been reshaping their factory with several departments – including Race Bays for their F1 cars – having been ‘moved into cutting-edge facilities’ in recent years, as part of on-going works around their F1 factory and campus.
Mercedes consequently are now ready to expand their site even further with the purchase of adjoining land parcels, which the team believes can ‘represent a significant net gain’ for the local community beyond their team.
As part of the expansion, Mercedes will create new facilities focused on employee health and wellbeing, alongside fresh ‘sustainability infrastructure and significantly improved vehicle flows to enable the pedestrianisation of much of the site.’
Mercedes Team Principal and CEO, Toto Wolff explained that their current campus was built to accommodate 350 people, which has since grown to have 1,250 employees meaning that expansion is needed to convert their base into “a modern-style campus”.
Aside from facilities concerning health and wellbeing, Wolff has also confirmed the following planned facilities, as he commented: “There will be breakout areas, restaurants, and a state-of-the-art gym and marketing building.”
Mercedes will also design ‘a brand-new parking structure’ which will be partly shared with Brackley Town Football Club, in order to allow the local football club to provide an improved matchday experience for the community and enable a nearly ‘car-free’ campus.
As part of the parking structure, there will be ‘a full solar array, to enable charging of over 70 electric vehicles through our own renewable energy infrastructure.’
Wolff also clarified that the new buildings will be designed in line with Mercedes’ Net-Zero targets in the interest of employees, as he added: “It’s all being done to create a great place to work and spend time.
“We want it to become its own little village, with all the amenities and benefits that you would expect from a Silicon Valley style environment.”
