EFL have confirmed a finalised play-off schedule following completion of 2022-23 regular season across Championship, League One and League Two.
In the Championship, Coventry secured their play-off spot in fifth-place following a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough – who in-turn finished fourth, meaning that the pair will again meet in the two-legged play-off semi-finals.
The first leg will take place at Coventry’s CBS Arena on Sunday 14 May in a 12pm BST kick-off, before Boro host the return leg at 8pm on Wednesday 17 May at the Riverside Stadium.
Sunderland meanwhile snatched the last play-off spot with a 3-0 away win at Preston on a topsy-turvy final day, having edged past Millwall and Blackburn Rovers who both missed out after contesting a seven-goal thriller at The Den won by Blackburn – who missed out on goal difference.
Tony Mowbray’s Black Cats will therefore host third-placed Luton Town in the first leg of their play-off semi-final at the Stadium of Light, which takes place at 5:30pm on Saturday 13 May with the return leg at Kenilworth Road scheduled for 8pm on Tuesday 16 May.
Down in League One, Peterborough snatched the last play-off spot on the final day at Derby’s expense and will now face Sheffield Wednesday in the first play-off semi-final, whilst Bolton face Barnsley in the other third-tier League One play-off.
Peterborough will host Darren Moore’s Owls on Friday 12 May at 8pm at London Road, whilst Bolton face Barnsley at 3pm on 13 May at University of Bolton Stadium.
EFL though have been forced to switch the second leg dates of Leagues One and Two around, due to Yorkshire police refusing to sanction Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley playing at home on Saturday 20 May – in an initially planned double header at 12:30pm and 3pm respectively.
Sheffield Wednesday will therefore meet Peterborough at Hillsborough on Thursday 18 May at 8pm, whilst Barnsley host Bolton at Oakwell 24 hours later on Friday 19 May.
Across in League Two, Salford will face Stockport in a Greater Manchester derby after the pair finished seventh and fourth respectively, with the first leg at Salford’s Peninsula Stadium scheduled for 7:45pm on 13 May.
Bradford meanwhile will face Carlisle in the other League Two play-off semi-final, with the first leg at Valley Parade set for 7pm on 14 May.
Due to the forementioned date swap with the second leg of League One’s play-off semi-finals, League Two will now bring the play-off semi-finals to a close with a double header on 20 May, starting with Salford’s trip to Stockport at 12:30pm.
Carlisle then will welcome Bradford to Brunton Park in the concluding play-off semi-final at 3pm later that day, although kick-off could be delayed in the event that Stockport’s tie against Salford goes to extra-time and potentially penalties.
The Play-Off Final dates for all three divisions at Wembley Stadium, London, remain unchanged as follow;
- Championship – Saturday 27 May (4:45pm)
- League One – Monday 29 May (3pm)
- League Two – Sunday 28 May (1:30pm)
Sky Sports will broadcast every semi-final and final across all three divisions of the EFL.
