Following a dull Azerbaijan Grand Prix, F1 will be hoping that the Magic City of Miami can produce thrilling action across the weekend as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen seeks to retain his title lead ahead of teammate – Sergio Perez.

Aston Martin meanwhile are seeking to keep Mercedes and Ferrari at bay as the trio all scrap for second in the constructors’ championship as F1 heads Stateside for the first of three American-based races this season.

Now, here is everything that you must know ahead of 2023 Miami GP.

Four Key Pointers

  • With resurfacing having taken place following complaints on its debut last season, FP1 could see teams focus on understanding how the new surface impacts their car set-up and tyre degradation.
  • Despite three different constructors topping practice sessions in Miami last season, this season should see Red Bull dominate the weekend such is their superior pace against their rivals.
  • After struggling with the new Sprint weekend format in Azerbaijan, Mercedes will welcome a return to the usual race weekend format where they should be much stronger with more practice time.
  • Last season saw most teams opt for a two-stop strategy due to a late Safety Car but if the track resurfacing doesn’t affect degradation, one-stop strategies could be possible this year.

Last Time Out

Verstappen won the inaugural Miami GP in 2022 from third on the grid after overtaking Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the opening nine laps, and proceeded to sprint away to victory even despite a late Safety Car following a collision between Lando Norris and Pierre Gasly on Lap 41.
