2022-23 Premier League: Week 33 – Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur meet Manchester United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the fight for a top-four Premier League finish.

Victory or at least a draw would see Tottenham reclaim fifth in the table, whilst Man Utd could reclaim third with a win if Newcastle slip up at Everton.

Hugo Lloris is a doubt for Tottenham after he was substituted in their defeat at Newcastle with a muscle injury.

Lucas Moura could return from suspension but Emerson Royal (knee), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring), Rodrigo Bentancur (ACL), and Yves Bissouma (ankle) remain absent.

Man Utd could be without midfielder, Bruno Fernandes after he suffered an ankle injury during their FA Cup semi-final win against Brighton on penalties.

Tom Heaton, Alejandro Garnacho (both ankle), Phil Jones, Donny van de Beek (both knee), Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane (both foot), Scott McTominay (knock) and Mason Greenwood (personal) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Tottenham host Man Utd in a 8:15pm BST kick-off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday 27 April, live on BT Sport 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Tottenham have claimed just four points from their last eight meetings against Man Utd (W1, D1, L6).
  • Man Utd have claimed 11 points from their last eight visits to Tottenham (W3, D2, L3).
  • Utd have scored three goals in three of their last four meetings against Tottenham, except for a 2-0 home win in October 2022
  • Son Heung-min has scored in four of his last five home appearances for Spurs.
  • Marcus Rashford has been involved in 19 league goals for Man Utd this season, having produced 15 goals and four assists in 29 appearances.

Prediction

With Cristian Stellini now gone following a shambolic defensive display in their 6-1 loss at Newcastle with little urgency off the ball, Tottenham now must reset under Ryan Mason’s reins and produce a much tidier performance with more intensity and cleaner defending.

Man Utd meanwhile be glad to have had 96 hours of rest come kick-off after needing penalties to defeat Brighton at Wembley, because they did feel second-best in several parts of that game but just lacked end product when on top whilst David De Gea was excellent in goal.

Erik Ten Hag’s Red Devils however should easily beat this Spurs team if they can get on the front foot quickly and really get under their defensive skin, although Tottenham players should be motivated to get back in their fans’ good books after recent vocal criticism at games with at least one goal.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Manchester United

Result: Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United
