2022-23 Premier League: Week 33 – Leeds vs Leicester

Leeds United face Leicester City at Elland Road in a huge showdown in the race for Premier League survival.

Victory would see Leeds stay 16th but move four points clear of the relegation zone, whilst Leicester can move above Javi Gracia’s Whites with a win and three points above the drop.

Leeds have no fresh injury concerns to report after their defeat at Fulham last weekend.

Tyler Adams (hamstring) and Stuart Dallas (thigh) remain absent.

Leicester will have Jamie Vardy available for selection after he was substituted with a minor ankle injury in their comeback win against Wolves on Saturday.

Harvey Barnes (hamstring) and James Maddison (illness) could both return to the first-team squad.

Ricardo Pereira (hamstring), Jonny Evans (illness), Ryan Bertrand (knee), Jannik Vestergaard (calf) and James Justin (Achilles) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Leeds host Leicester at 8pm BST on Tuesday 25 April at Elland Road, live on BT Sport 1 in UK.

Stat Attack

  • Leeds have won just one of their last five meetings against Leicester (W1, D1, L3).
  • Leicester are unbeaten in four of their last five visits to Leeds (W3, D1, L1).
  • Harvey Barnes has scored in each of his five appearances for Leicester against Leeds (W3, D1, L1).
  • Luis Sinisterra has scored in two of his last three appearances at home for Leeds.
  • Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho is looking to score in three consecutive league games for the first time since April 2021.

Prediction

Now sat just one point above the relegation zone and their latest opposition, Leeds surely have to win this game if want to reduce their fears of the drop but poor defensive marking proved their downfall at Fulham amidst little end product to an otherwise decent attack up front.

Leicester meanwhile will be full of fresh confidence after snatching a comeback win against Wolves to move out of the bottom three, but I would like to see tighter control in possession following various early bits of sloppy play and wasteful finishing touches.

Both teams therefore have work to do if want to stay up but Barnes’ potential return could be well-timed given his form in this fixture, whilst Iheanacho seems to have rediscovered his spark up front which could be the launchpad towards survival with a win here.

Prediction: Leeds 1-2 Leicester
