F1 have announced that the Austrian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until 2027, under a new four-year contract.

This year’s trip to the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria, was set to be the last Austrian GP under the current deal since the race returned in 2014, following a 11-year absence after being dropped following the 2003 race.

F1 however has agreed a new four-year contract with circuit organisers to keep the race on the calendar for four further seasons, with this year’s visit again hosting a Sprint Race weekend format for a second consecutive season.

F1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali stated that he is “delighted” to retain the Austrian GP which “brings together the perfect mix of a challenging track, high-speed racing, and a beautiful venue for our fans,” at a circuit which has intermittently been on and off the calendar since 1970.

This season marks 10 years since F1 returned to Austria and Domenicali acknowledged Dietrich Mateschitz’s “love, passion and vision” which the Red Bull co-founder brought to the Austrian GP alongside his “huge enthusiasm” for the sport within Austria and across the world.

General Manager of Projekt Spielberg GmbH & CO KG, Erich Wolf added that the whole team “are proud” of their “special partnership” with F1 and feel “absolutely delighted” to agree their latest four-year contract, and thanked fans for “loyalty” and providing a “tremendous atmopshere” trackside.

This year’s Austrian Grand Prix will take place from 30 June – 2 July at Red Bull Ring, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc looking to defend his main race victory of last season en-route to second in the drivers’ championship behind three-time Austrian GP winner – Max Verstappen.

Mercedes though are the most successful constructor around the current track since it was renamed the Red Bull Ring, having taken five victories in total, of which their most recent came in 2020 with Valtteri Bottas in the rearranged season opener during the Coronavirus pandemic.
