Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire is ‘shocked and gutted’ that he has been left out of England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

England manager, Thomas Tuchel is set to name his 26-man squad tomorrow morning (22 May) but Maguire has posted on his social media channels that he is not part of the squad ahead of the announcement.

In a short social media statement, Maguire spoke of his shock and belief at not being called up for the tournament after a strong season for Utd, whilst he was also part of England’s friendlies against Uruguay and Japan in March.

“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision.

“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players, all the best this summer.”

Maguire will now miss a second major tournament after he had been ruled out of UEFA Euro 2024 with a calf injury.
