McGregor Amongst Five Recalls For Scotland Squad To Face Cyprus and Spain

Callum McGregor features amongst five players recalled to the Scotland squad for 2024 UEFA Euro qualifiers against Cyprus and Spain.

Callum McGregor returns in midfield after he missed November’s international friendly defeat to Turkey due to injury, replacing winger – Ryan Fraser who has been snubbed after being dropped from Newcastle United’s senior squad in recent weeks.

In goal, Clarke will be without Craig Gordon who is injured following a serious leg injury suffered during the festive season, but the goalkeeper has been replaced by his Hearts teammate, Zander Clark.

Norwich’s Angus Gunn meanwhile replaces Rangers’ Robby McCrorie who has been dropped due to a lack of game time, whilst Motherwell’s Liam Kelly is the only goalkeeper retained from Clarke’s last selection.

Clarke meanwhile has recalled Leeds’ Liam Cooper in defence despite the defender struggling with a muscle injury in recent weeks, whilst Brentford’s Aaron Hickey also has been recalled to the line-up.

Scott McKenna and Calvin Ramsay though drop out due to injury.

Up front, Clarke has retained the quartet of; Che Adams, Jacob Brown, Ryan Christie and Lyndon Dykes.

Here is the 23-man squad to face Cyprus and Spain at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on 25 and 28 March respectively in 2024 UEFA Euro Qualifiers.
