Burnley continue to ease towards promotion whilst the battle for second grew ever closer in the latest round of Championship action.

Nathan Tella’s brace plus a first goal for the Clarets from Lyle Foster saw league leaders, Burnley thrash rock-bottom Wigan 3-0 at Turf Moor, although the visiting Latics finished with ten men after Omar Rekik was red carded in-between Tella’s goals.

Sheffield United’s grip on second place continued to loosen after Carlton Morris’ 53rd minute close-range winner saw Luton clinch victory at Bramall Lane, which in turn promoted the Hatters up to fourth.

Third-placed Middlesbrough moved to within four points of Sheffield Utd with a comeback 3-1 win at Swansea, as Cameron Archer and Chuba Akpom completed their victory after Aaron Ramsey cancelled out Joel Piroe’s goal.

Blackburn slipped to fifth after falling to a 3-2 defeat at Stoke as Ki-Jana Hoever struck twice and Tyrese Campbell completed the Potters’ victory, despite conceding late goals to Ben Brereton Diaz and Sam Gallagher.

Millwall round out the top six after Andreas Voglsammer’s 11th minute penalty secured a narrow 1-0 win at Reading.

Down in the relegation zone, Huddersfield remain second-bottom on goal difference after they fell to a narrow defeat at West Brom, courtesy of John Swift’s 30th minute penalty after Matty Pearson fouled Conor Townsend.

Second-half goals from Andreas Weimann and Alex Scott secured Bristol City a 2-0 win over third-bottom Blackpool at Ashton Gate, which ended the Robins’ 13-and-a-half year wait since their last triumph over the struggling Tangerines.

Cardiff remain six points above the drop after they fell to a 2-0 loss at Preston as Tom Cannon and Ched Evans scored after half-time, either side of the Bluebirds’ Jak Alnwick being red carded for a foul on Cannon.

Elsewhere, Norwich suffered their first defeat in six matches as Abdoullah Ba struck a 15th minute winner for Sunderland at Carrow Road.

Tim Iroegbunam’s 15th minute winner saw QPR end their 13-match winless run and clinch their first victory under Gareth Ainsworth, in a match where they eventually clung on to beat Watford.

First-half goals from Reda Khadra and Kevin Long saw Birmingham comfortably defeat Rotherham 2-0 at St Andrew’s Stadium.

Finally, Matty Godden cancelled out Oscar Estupinan’s powerful strike as Coventry fought back to draw 1-1 at home to Hull.
