Arsenal remain top of the Premier League following a busy matchweek despite four teams not participating in the action.

Gabriel Martinelli’s neat 46th minute strike saw Arsenal stay top of the table by two points with a narrow victory at Leicester.

Arsenal further extended their lead to five points with a 4-0 home win over Everton in midweek, as Martinelli scored twice in-between goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Phil Foden provided an assist and goal as Manchester City thrashed second-bottom Bournemouth 4-1 at the Vitality Stadium, with Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland also on the scoresheet alongside Chris Mepham’s own-goal before Jefferson Lerma smashed in a late consolatory goal for the Cherries.

Manchester United and Newcastle United remain third and fifth respectively after their home games against Brentford and Brighton were postponed, due to their involvement in the Carabao Cup Final which Man Utd won 2-0 to end their six-year trophy drought.

Tottenham round out the top four after second-half goals from Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane secured a 2-0 home win over London rivals, Chelsea.

Down in the relegation zone, Southampton remain rock-bottom after Junior Firpo struck a 77th minute winner for Leeds in a close contest at Elland Road, which lifted Leeds out of the bottom three by one point.

Everton consequently slipped back into the bottom three after losing 2-0 at home to Aston Villa, in which Ollie Watkins netted in his fifth consecutive league game whilst Emiliano Buendia’s late strike rounded off Villa’s win.

West Ham moved out of the drop zone with a dominant 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest at home, as Danny Ings’ quick-fire brace coupled with goals from Declan Rice and Michail Antonio completed a ruthless 14 minute spell towards the conclusion of the match.

Elsewhere, Manor Solomon’s equalising strike cancelled out Pablo Sarabia’s opening goal as Fulham fought back to snatch a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves.

Finally, Liverpool were held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday evening but quick-fire goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah secured a 2-0 midweek win at home to Wolves.
