England’s Mary Earps and Sarina Wiegman enjoyed success at 2022 FIFA Best Awards, whilst Beth Mead missed out on the FIFA Best Women’s Player award.
Earps triumphed in the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper category after she beat off competition from Germany’s Ann Katrin-Berger and Chile’s Christiane Endler, having impressed in England’s Euro success on home soil last summer with just two conceded goals.
Wiegman meanwhile was crowned as FIFA Best Women’s Manager after guiding the Lionesses unbeaten throughout 2022, in which they won the Arnold Clark Cup and 2022 UEFA Women’s Euro, of which the latter followed up her triumph with Netherlands in that competition in 2017.
Mead though missed out on the FIFA Best Women’s Player award to Barcelona and Spain’s Alexi Putellas who had scored 36 goals in 2021-22 season, despite failing to feature in the Women’s Euro due to injury in training prior to their tournament opener in Group B.
England’s Lucy Bronze, Leah Williamson, Keira Walsh and Mead were also included in FIFAPro’s Women XI of the year alongside other stars like Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and France’s Wendie Renard.
Argentina enjoyed strong success as they scooped four awards as Lionel Messi was crowned as FIFA Best Men’s player, despite missing out on the Golden Boot at 2022 FIFA World Cup to fellow nominee, France’s Kylian Mbappe.
Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez meanwhile scooped FIFA Best Men’s Goalkeeper award for his impressive performances for both Villa and Argentina, during which he was awarded the Golden Glove at the World Cup.
Manager, Lionel Scaloni meanwhile was crowned as FIFA Best Men’s manager after guiding Argentina to World Cup glory, in which they defeated France on penalties following a dramatic 3-3 draw.
Argentina’s fans picked up the FIFA Best Fans award to cap off a memorable quadruple for the 2021 Copa America champions.
Defender, Luka Lochoshvili was awarded FIFA Best Fair Play award, after his quick actions whilst playing for Wolfsberger saved the life of Austria Wien’s Georg Teigl during an Austrian Bundesliga clash.
Warta Poznan’s Marcin Oleksy won FIFA’s Puskas Award for a stunning long-range strike against Stal Rzeszow.
