Arsenal moved top of the Premier League table in a huge matchweek with implications at opposite ends of the table.
Emiliano Martinez’s own goal and Gabriel Martinelli’s strike in injury-time returned Arsenal to the summit with a 4-2 win at Aston Villa, having twice fought back through Bukayo Saka and Oleksandr Zinchenko to cancel out Ollie Watkins and Philippe Coutinho’s goals respectively.
Manchester City consequently slipped to second after Bernardo Silva’s 20-yard strike was cancelled out by Chris Wood, as Nottingham Forest came from behind to hold the reigning champions to a surprise 1-1 draw at the City Ground.
Manchester United remain third and five points behind Arsenal after Marcus Rashford’s brace and Jadon Sancho’s strike sealed a 3-0 win over Leicester.
Tottenham moved up to fourth with a 2-0 home win over third-bottom West Ham as Emerson Royal and Son Heung-min both scored in the second half.

Down in the relegation zone, Southampton remain rock-bottom despite stunning Chelsea in a shock 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge – courtesy of James Ward-Prowse’s free-kick in the first minute of first-half injury time.
Leeds slipped to second-bottom after suffering a 1-0 defeat away at relegation rivals, Everton, as Seamus Coleman struck a 64th minute winner to lift Sean Dyche’s Toffees out of the bottom three.
Bournemouth climbed out of the relegation zone courtesy of Marcus Tavernier’s flicked 49th minute winner, which saw the Cherries clinch their first-ever Premier League win against Wolves.

Elsewhere, first-half goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo saw Liverpool stun ten-men Newcastle 2-0 at St James’ Park, as the Magpies’ goalkeeper – Nick Pope was red carded for handball.
Manor Solomon scored a 88th minute winner as Fulham produced a smash-and-grab victory to stun Brighton in a close contest at the AMEX Stadium, which saw the Cottagers leapfrog their hosts to go sixth.
Finally, Vitaly Janelt’s 96th minute header saw Brentford extend their unbeaten league run to 11 matches in all competitions, as Thomas Frank’s Bees snatched a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace after the Eagles had led through Eberechi Eze’s 69th minute header.
