2022-23 Premier League: Week 24 – Leicester vs Arsenal

Leicester City welcome title-chasing Arsenal to the King Power Stadium.

Victory would see Leicester go 12th in the table if Nottingham Forest fail to win elsewhere, whilst Arsenal can stay top with a win.

James Maddison is a doubt for Leicester as he continues to battle a recurring knee injury, despite having played in their 3-0 defeat at Manchester United last weekend.

Jonny Evans (calf), James Justin (Achilles) and Ryan Bertrand (knee) remain absent.

Arsenal could welcome Thomas Partey back into contention after he missed their last two matches with a back injury.

Mohamed Elneny and Gabriel Jesus (both knee) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Leicester host Arsenal in a 3pm GMT kick-off at King Power Stadium on Saturday 25 February, albeit untelevised in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester have won just one of their last five league meetings against Arsenal (W1, L4).
  • Arsenal have won just two of their last six league visits to Leicester (W2, D1, L3).
  • There have been eight red cards in 33 Premier League meetings between Leicester and Arsenal, with the Gunners having picked up five red cards to Leicester’s three.
  • No Leicester player has been caught offside on more occasions in the league this season than Jamie Vardy (15).
  • Coming into this matchweek, no team has produced fewer long balls than Arsenal this season, with the Gunners having delivered just 1,075 long balls.

Prediction

Having enjoyed positive periods of attacking play at Old Trafford, Leicester certainly should feel disappointed by how they lost the game, having been undone on the counter-attack for all three conceded goals amidst some sloppy end product and crucial saves by David De Gea.

Brendan Rogers’ Foxes though need to reset and come out with the same level of performance albeit with better defending, especially given their recent home form against Arsenal which offers some hope.

Arsenal though were defensively sloppy themselves at Villa so they too will have work to do at the back yet just had the firepower and determination to snatch a comeback win, despite Eddie Nketiah producing wasteful final touches so I do expect them to be ready for another tough game.

On that note, I seriously would be surprised if this game finishes goalless but if Leicester can get on the front foot and play like they did against Utd, albeit with better finishing then they could target Arsenal’s vulnerable defence otherwise the Gunners might edge this game.

Prediction: Leicester 1-2 Arsenal

Result: Leicester 0-1 Arsenal
