Forward, Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new contract at Arsenal until June 2027.
Martinelli’s new contract comes in his fourth season at Arsenal where he has scored 25 goals in 111 appearances all competitions, since he arrived from Ituano in July 2019.
During his first season, Martinelli made three appearances in the FA Cup as he helped the Gunners clinch their 14th title in England’s historic cup competition.
Speaking about his decision to sign a new long-term contract, Martinelli described the chance to stay in North London as “amazing, as he vowed to continue making the team and fans “proud” after scoring seven league goals in his best Premier League season yet.
On what made him want to stay with Arsenal, Martinelli added: “I’ve said it many times, I love everything about Arsenal. I love the city, I love my teammates, I love the fans, I love the club and I’m going to try my best for this football club.”
Martinelli also reflected upon his progress in learning the English language as he bemused how “nervous” he was when he first arrived, unable to even speak one word in English which meant that he wasn’t able to “understand anything the guys were saying to me. ”
“We need to win trophies,” vowed Martinelli as Arsenal remain on course for a first Premier League title since 2004 plus UEFA Europa League title.
On how he is approaching the remainder of this season, Martinelli explained that he and his teammates share the same feeling, as he said: “I think not just me but everyone in that dressing room wants to go to the games to win them, and for our fans.”
Manager, Mikel Arteta is “delighted” to retain Martinelli who he paised for displaying consistent “quality and energy every single time he puts on the shirt and he’s the same every day in training, with his hard work and positive values.”
Arteta though iterated that the 21 year-old still has “much more to come” within his “huge talent” and can’t wait to remain “on this journey together.”
Martinelli also graduated into Brazil’s national team last year where he has made six appearances and was part of their 2022 FIFA World Cup squad, which suffered a shock Quarter-Final exit to Croatia in Qatar.
