2022-23 FA Cup: Fourth Round – Preston vs Tottenham

Preston North End host Tottenham Hotspur at Deepdale in a mouth-watering Fourth Round tie in 2022-23 FA Cup.

Victory would see Preston reach the Fifth Round for the first time since 2014-15 season, whilst Tottenham can avoid a Fourth Round exit for a fourth consecutive season with a win.

Ben Whiteman could return for Preston after he was absent in recent matches due to a knock, having returned from a thigh injury sustained prior to the World Cup break.

Brad Potts (foot) could also return but Troy Parrott and Liam Delap are inelgibile for selection.

Emil Riis Jakonsen (knee) remains absent.

Tottenham could be without Bryan Gil due to a knock but the midfielder will face a late fitness test.

Arnaut Danjuma could make his debut after he joined on loan from Villarreal in midweek.

Lucas Moura (tendon) remains absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Preston’s clash against Tottenham will take place at Deepdale on Saturday 29 January at 6pm GMT, with the match broadcast live on BBC One in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Preston are unbeaten in six of 11 previous FA Cup meetings in nine ties (W4, D2, L5).
  • Tottenham have won just one of five previous FA Cup visits to Preston (W1, D1, L3).
  • Preston have scored in each of their five previous home ties against Spurs in the FA Cup.
  • Preston are winless in their last five FA Cup ties against Premier League opposition (L5).
  • Tottenham have lost just one of their last five away ties in FA Cup (W3, D1, L1), although the two games in which they failed to win came at Championship opposition – Middlesbrough.

Prediction

Despite currently sitting 11th in the Championship and two points off the play-offs, Preston could spring a surprise if they attack this game like they did at Birmingham City last weekend and snatch at least an early goal.

Their defence though will have to do everything correctly because they will face a strong Tottenham attack, who certainly have the ability to ruthlessly punish any lacklustre play.

Spurs though haven’t exactly consistent in their performance levels so it is tricky to predict what sort of team to expect, yet Antonio Conte certainly will take this game seriously especially after a clinical league win at Fulham last Monday evening (23 January).

Deepdale though hasn’t exactly been kind to Tottenham in the FA Cup so this will certainly be a tough game between two inconsistent teams, which makes a draw easy to predict but I do fancy Spurs to somehow scrape through.

Prediction: Preston 0-1 Tottenham

Result: Preston 0-3 Tottenham
