Hearts have signed forward, Garang Kuol on loan from Newcastle United until end of 2022-23 season.

Kuol officially signed a pre-contract agreement with Newcastle in late September 2022, which became official upon the opening of this month’s transfer window on 1 January.

The 18 year-old meanwhile returned to his former club, Central Coast Mariners in the mean time where he scored two goals in ten appearances, and made two substitute appeareances for Australia at 2022 FIFA World Cup as the Aussies exited in Round of 16 Stage against Argentina.

Upon confirmation of his transfer being completed earlier this month, Kuol officially moved to the Magpies with view of a loan move to Scottish Premiership’s Hearts, despite interest from Reading and various other English clubs in the young forward.

Newcastle ultimately determined that Robbie Nielson’s Hearts would be the right club to send Kuol on loan until end of season, in hope of providing him with regular game time due to limited opportunities at St James’ Park due to various in-form wingers and strikers.

Speaking to Hearts TV about his decision to join Hearts on loan, Kuol said: “I am very happy to be here. I can’t wait to play here in front of these amazing fans. I just felt it was a great team, with great fans, a great stadium, and a great history.

“The gaffer also persuaded me to come here with the plan that he put to me for my development. Overall, the club has great ambitions and goals and that was something I wanted to be involved in. I think it was a very good decision.”

Nielson added that Kuol’s arrival is “fantastic news” after he met the club last week for face-to-face discussions and a look around the training ground and stadium.

Calming fans’ expectations on Kuol across his loan spell, Neilson also issued the following warning to supporters: “We’re getting a player who is by no means the finished article but there is a lot of talent there – you don’t get called up to and play in the World Cup for nothing.

“He’ll offer us new options going forward as we look to continue our good form and continue to make progress in the league and in the Scottish Cup, and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”
