Leeds United have signed defender, Max Wober from Red Bull Salzburg on four-and-a-half year contract for an undisclosed fee.

Wober’s arrival comes after the Austrian defender spent three-and-a-half years at RB Salzburg, where he scored nine goals in 125 senior appearances, having previously played for Rapid Wien, Ajax and Sevilla

This move also reunites Wober with manager, Jesse Marsch who signed him when in charge of RB Salzburg, with the defender currently able to play either as a centre-back or left-back.

Wober has signed a four-and-a-half year contract until June 2027.

“It’s a massive challenge for me,” commented Wober who has already scored 15 goals in 225 appearances across four previous clubs, as he now prepares for the challenge of Premier League football.

On what it means to join Leeds, Wober added: “Coming now to Leeds, a club with such a big history and tradition is definitely something special and was always a dream for me growing up, arriving at Elland Road feels amazing.”

Leeds are currently battling for Premier League survival and Wober iterated that his “biggest strengths” are his “personality and character”, as he vows that he is “never going to give up on the pitch, I will leave it all out there,” as he seeks to help the Whites avoid relegation.

Wober though acknowledged that he won’t be an automatic pick on the teamsheet as he continued: “I have to work hard to get into the team and play well to get accepted in the dressing room and try to grow with every opportunity I get.”

Despite being mainly utilised in central defence or at left-back, Wober isn’t afraid to play in unfamilar positions, as he said: “I will play wherever the team needs me, it doesn’t matter if it is left-back, centre-back or as a number six, I’m fine with everything and will give my best.”

Wober will wear the number 39 shirt and will be eligible to make his debut away to Cardiff City in Third Round of 2022-23 FA Cup, live on ITV1 on Sunday 8 January in a 2pm GMT kick-off.
