England defender, Alex Greenwood has committed her future to Manchester City with a new contract until June 2026.
Greenwood joined Man City in September 2020 from Lyon and has since scored four goals in 75 appearances, during which she helped the Citizens win the delayed 2019-20 FA Cup due to Coronavirus lockdowns then 2021-22 WSL League Cup.
Across her time at City, Greenwood was also part of England’s UEFA Women’s Euro and Arnold Clark Cup winning squads.
Upon signing her new contract, Greenwood iterated to mancity.com that she has just one ambition as she commented: “I want to win the league. I want to compete in the Champions League. I want to win the Champions League.”
On why she had set herself that target, Greenwood added: “I have really high standards of myself and I know this club has really high standards of what we achieve.
“I would be sitting here lying if I said any different.
“But I set my goals really high and they’re what I want to win while I’m here.”
Greenwood also reflected upon her favourite moments at Man City where success is her biggest motication, as she said: “I’ve got a few. I think winning the FA Cup and the Continental Cup stand out for themselves, because I want to win trophies and I love winning. So that for me is important I think.
“Every year has been quite different, for so many reasons.”
Greenwood eventually concluded that she wants to “have so many more memories to talk about in the future,” but reiterated that “being successful and winning trophies” are her main priorities as England continue preparations for 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Man City currently sit fourth in Barclays’ Women’s Super League behind Arsenal and Manchester United who both like City have a game in hand, upon league leaders – Chelsea who sit top across the festive break.
