Australian racing driver, Christian Mansell has joined Campos for the 2023 FIA F3 season.

Mansell’s full-time move comes after he finished third in 2022 EuroFormula season, in a campaign which also saw him drive for Charouz in F3 rounds at Hungaroring, Hungary, and Spa Francorchamps, Belgium, as a replacement driver for Zdenek Chovanec.

Mansell also participated in the opening two days of the 2022 F3 Post-Season Test for Campos, where he finished seventh and 15th fastest overall on both days in which he drove the car.

The 17 year-old however did enough to secure a full-time move to F3 for next season with Campos, which he has described as “a fantastic honour and certainly also an achievement.”

Mansell also has set himself the target of making “a great debut in FIA Formula 3” in 2023 after enjoying a strong 2022 campaign, in which he scored points in 24 of 30 races across F3 and EuroFormula although he failed to score a single point in the former category for Charouz.

During this season, Mansell has also claimed three EuroFormula wins and 12 further podium finishes which all came during his EuroFormula campaign.

Campos Team Principal, Adrian Campos added that he won’t be placing expectations upon Mansell to perform immediately, as he stated that the F3 “will be a challenge for him as a rookie driver but we hope he can achieve good results as he accumulates experience…” in a “difficult and demanding” series.

Campos also noted Mansell’s strong single-seater record in which the Australian finished third in GB3 in 2021 then in EuroFormula this year with a combined five wins in total, as he described Mansell “as a high-level driver.

Mansell also has Type 1 Diabetes which Campos believes makes him “a reference and an example for everyone for his effort and tenacity and that he can reach the highest sporting level.”

Next season will see Mansell participate in his home race with F3 set to head Down Under to Melbourne, Australia for the very first time to support the F1 Australian Grand Prix.
