2022-23 Sky Bet Championship: Week 18 Roundup

Burnley remain top of the Sky Bet Championship following a tense matchweek with movement across the table. 

Late goals from Manuel Benson and Halil Dervisoglu fired league leaders, Burnley to a dramatic 3-2 victory over 10-men Rotherham at Turf Moor, after goals from Ben Wiles and Chiedozie Ogbene had twice put the Milers in front despite Jay Rodriguez’s equaliser.

Blackburn Rovers remain second in the table despite suffering a 1-0 away loss at Coventry in which Jamie Allen’s winner lifted the Sky Blues out of the relegation zone, whilst Rovers had Jake Garrett red carded for a late foul on Callum Doyle as they slipped five points behind Burnley.

Iliman Ndiaye’s 49th minute header saw Sheffield United snatch a scrappy win at Bristol City to stay third in the table.

QPR and Norwich remain fourth and fifth respectively after the pair played out a goalless draw at Carrow Road.

Comeback headers from Francisco Sierralta and Ismaila Sarr fired Watford up to sixth in a 2-1 victory at Cardiff, despite having conceded a ninth-minute opener through the Bluebirds’ Cedric Kipre.

Swansea slipped out of the top six and sit seventh ahead of their conquerors, Preston who beat the Swans at Deepdale through Brad Potts’ first-half effort to go eighth in the table.

Down in the relegation zone, Huddersfield slipped to rock-bottom after losing 2-0 at home to Sunderland , as Alex Pritchard and Amad Diallo both found the net after half-time.

Okay Yokuslu’s 85th minute strike saw West Bromwich Albion scrape a home win over Blackpool to move off the foot of the table.

Wigan slipped into the bottom three after Josh Tymon’s 62nd minute strike saw Stoke snatch a narrow away win at the DW Stadium.

Elsewhere, Cyrus Christie scored at both ends of the pitch as he cancelled out Chuba Akpom’s opener before he and Tobias Figueiredo netted own goals, which handed Middlesbrough a 3-1 win away at Hull and the Teessiders’ first victory under new manager – Michael Carrick.

Luton’s winless run extended to three matches after they were held to a goalless draw at home by Reading.

Finally, Birmingham City and Millwall scrapped to a goalless draw at St Andrew’s Stadium.
