Burnley Sign Darko Churlinov From VFB Stuggart

Burnley have signed winger, Darko Churlinov from VFB Stuggart for an undisclosed fee.

Churlinov arrives from Bundesliga’s VFB Stuggart where he had scored three goals in 25 appearances since he moved to the Club from Cologne in January 2020, although he spent last season on loan at Schalke where he scored twice in 23 appearances.

Speaking about his move to Turf Moor on a four-year contract, Churlinov said: “I’m feeling very excited to be here, I’m really looking forward to this season ahead.

“There’s no time to lose and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow and the upcoming weeks.”

On the challenge of adapting to English football and helping Burnley chase promotion back to the Premier League, the 22 year-old Macedonia international commented: “It’s different football, a different style, I’m really looking forward to learning here.

“I think it’s very important for this club to get back in the Premier League and I’m here to help that happen.”

On what Churlinov can add to the squad, manager, Vincent Kompany added that Churlinov “… is an attacking minded player with an outstanding work-rate and mentality within the game.”

Kompany also praised Stuggart for their involvement in Churlinov’s move as he continued: “We have a good relationship with Vfb Stuttgart and thank them for enabling us to bring a promising young player to our group.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the team and we are happy he is a part of the future at this Club.”

Churlinov began his career at FK Forca before going on to play his youth football for; FK Rabotnicki, FK Vardar, Hansa Rostock, Magdeburg and Cologne, from which he graduated from the latter club into their first-team squad.

Churlinov also is the youngest-ever Macedonian to play for Macedonia National Team at senior level, having made his debut aged 16 years and eight months in March 2017 and has since gone on to score three goals in 17 international appearances.

Churlinov could be in line for his Clarets debut at home against Blackpool tomorrow (20 August) in an untelevised 3pm kick-off in the Sky Bet Championship.
