Everton has signed Conor Coady on a season-long loan from Wolves.
Coady’s arrival comes just hours after fellow defenders, Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina were ruled out indefinitely with respective fibula and ankle injuries suffered during Saturday’s Premier League defeat against Chelsea.
Speaking to evertontv. about his move to Goodison Park, Coady described the opportunity as “incredible” after hearing of interest from manager – Frank Lampard and the club itself.
Coady grew up on the outskirts of Liverpool – having been born in St. Helens but raised in Haydock so is aware of what it means to play for a Merseyside club as he explained: “I’ve grown up around the city, I know the Football Club, how big this club is and what it means to the supporters.
“I’m someone who was desperate to come here, to play for this club. I’ve got family and friends who are massive Evertonians.”
The 29 year-old proceeded to vow to try his best for the Toffees who narrowly avoided relegation last season, as he added: “I’m here to give absolutely everything I’ve got for this football club. It’s important I work as hard as I can to help my teammates, help the Club move forward and make people proud.”
Everton’s Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell – who previously brought Coady to Wolves in 2015 – hailed the defender as “… a top-quality player who I have had the pleasure of knowing for many years. I have no doubt he will be an excellent addition to Everton and our squad.”
Thelwell also iterated that he and Lampard are working with Everton chairman – Bill Kenwright who has “unrivalled experience in player negotiations” to bring in more signings ahead of the transfer window deadline on 31 August.
Coady will wear the number 30 shirt and could make his debut for the Toffees away at Aston Villa on Saturday 13 August, in a 12:30pm BST kick-off live on BT Sport.
