Alex Albon has signed a multi-year contract to stay with Williams for 2023 F1 season and beyond.

Albon joined the team this season on loan from Red Bull and has clinched three points from the opening 13 races of the campaign, with a highest-placed finish of ninth in the Miami Grand Prix.

Speaking about his decision to remain at Grove long-term, Albon said: “It’s really exciting to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023,” as he added that he is excited about what he “can achieve” across the remainder of this season and beyond.

On the team’s progress after a rough period of results in recent years, Albon continued: “The team is pushing hard to progress, and I am really motivated to continue this journey and further develop our learnings together.

Williams ‘ CEO and Team Principal, Jost Capito added that Albon has already established himself as “a tremendous driver and valued member” of the team and is “thrilled” to secure him on a multi-year contract.

Capito went on to add that the Thai-British driver’s “great blend of skill and insightful learnings” will help bring Williams stronger success in the future, whilst praising Albon for being “a fierce competitor,” with loyalty and is happy he “will provide a stable base” to continue development.

Albon graduated to F1 in 2019 with Toro Rosso where he impressed with 16 points in 12 races to earn a mid-season promotion to Red Bull, where he struggled to match Verstappen and was dropped at end of 2020 for Sergio Perez.

Red Bull however retained Albon as Reserve Driver last season alongside his DTM commitment for AlphaTauri, where he clinched one win and finished sixth in the standings to secure a return to F1 with Williams this season.

Albon meanwhile took to social media following the announcement where he poked fun at Oscar Piastri’s tweet, where the Aussie yesterday denied he had signed to race for Alpine in 2023 after the team had announced him just hours earlier.
