Christian Mansell Joins Charouz For 2022 F3 Hungary and Belgium Rounds

Charouz have announced that Christian Mansell will replace Zdenek Chovanec in their F3 team for 2022 Hungary and Belgium rounds.

Mansell’s opportunity comes following the end of Zdenek Chovanec’s two-round stint at Charouz in their number 15 car, which has originally been driven by Ayrton Simmons before he withdrew from the series and was then replaced by David Schumacher, Lirim Zendeli and Chovanec.

Mansell currently is racing in 2022 EuroFormula championship, where he lies second in the standings behind Oliver Goethe, who is also making his F3 debut in Hungary as the Danish driver joins Campos replacing the injured Hunter Yeany.

Speaking about his opportunity to step up to F3, Mansell commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to pit myself against an incredibly talented grid of drivers and get my name out there racing on the Formula 1 weekends.

“It will be my first time in the car so there will be a lot to learn from the start, but I like both circuits so will be able to hit the ground running with those. I’m mega excited and can’t wait to get started this weekend in Hungary.”

Mansell will be back racing in Hungary for just the second time, having previously visited with EuroFormula in early July, where he claimed a win and second-placed finish in two of three races at the Hungaroring.

After the summer break, Mansell returns to Circuit Spa Francorchamps, where he has claimed one win and three further podiums in nine previous races he participated in across British F3 and EuroFormula.

Charouz team owner, Antonin Charouz added that he is “really happy” to welcome the Bolwarra-born Australian to the team and F3, although he has urged caution from fans as he said:

He’ll need all of our support to get confident with a single-seater different from the ones he already raced with, but I’m confident that it will happen very naturally and very quickly given how talented he is.”

Charouz also noted Mansell’s experience of both Hungaroring and Spa Francorchamps as he added: “The fact that he already had experiences at both Hungaroring and Spa-Francorchamps is definitely an optimum starting point for his debut.”
