Troy Parrott has signed a new three-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur but will spend 2022-23 season on loan at Preston North End.

Parrot graduated through Tottenham’s youth academy and made his professional debut in their Third Round exit of 2019-20 Carabao Cup away at Colchester United, where Spurs lost on penalties after being held to a goalless draw.

The 20 year-old striker went on to make four appearances in total that season, before spending the 2020-21 season on loan at Millwall and Ipswich Town, during which he failed to score in 14 appearances for the Lions but managed two goals for League One’s Ipswich in 18 appearances.

Last season saw Parrott stay in League One as he joined MK Dons on loan where he scored 10 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions, as the Dons ultimately finished third but failed to beat Wycombe Wanderers in their play-off semi-final.

Tottenham consequently have decided to tie him down to a new three-year contract until 2025, although he will return to the Championship on a season-long loan at Preston, having previously played in the second-tier for Millwall.

Speaking about his move to Deepdale for this season, Parrott said: “I’m buzzing to get going, to come in and see the place, meet the lads and get going really.”

Parrott also revealed that he spoke with manager, Ryan Lowe and is excited about Lowe’s playing style for the season ahead as he added: “I like the sound of how the team wants to play, they want to create a lot of chances which for me is a no brainer really, and obviously the Irish boys here also helps.”

Tottenham’s young Irish international striker won’t be alone at Deepdale as he will be linking up with his Republic of Ireland teammates, Alan Browne and Robbie Brady, who have both already held discussions with Parrott about life at Preston.

Lowe meanwhile revealed that he had monitored Parrott’s “fantastic” progress at MK Dons last season and even attended Ireland’s UEFA Nations League clash against Scotland last month, where Parrott scored Ireland’s second goal in a 3-0 win over the Tartan Army.

The 43 year-old manager also praised Parrott for his ability as he explained: “His work ethic is fantastic, his hold-up play is very good for the style he is, but ultimately we want Troy to score goals for us.”

Parrott could make his debut for Preston on Saturday (30 July) as Lowe’s Lilywhites visit Wigan Athletic in their opening match of 2022-23 Sky Bet Championship season.
