Luton Town has signed striker Carlton Morris from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

Morris began his career at Norwich where he graduated through the Canaries’ youth academy as he helped them win 2012-13 FA Youth Cup, prior to signing a professional contract in December 2013.

The Cambridge-born striker however found his first-team opportunities limited as he found himself sent out on loan to the following clubs; Oxford United, York City, Hamilton Academical, Rotherham, Shrewsbury Town and MK Dons between 2014-21.

January 2021 saw Barnsley swoop for the 26 year-old to end his Norwich struggles in which he only made one senior appearance for the Canaries.

Morris went on to score 16 goals for the Tykes in total as they suffered relegation to League One at end of last season – having reached the promotion play-offs the previous season.

Addressing the fact that he is now back in the Sky Bet Championship despite failing to prevent Barnsley going down last season, Morris said: “I’m hugely grateful for the opportunity to come back to the Championship.

“I really want to challenge myself, I don’t just want to coast through my career. Football is a short game and I have to put myself to the test.”

Morris went on to speak about the opportunity to play for Luton who last season reached the play-offs: “I’m really excited to get started. I have played at Kenilworth Road a few times and it is never an easy place to go.

“I am happy to be on this side of it now because I want to be at a place where I know I’m confident with the squad that the gaffer is building. This is going to be a place where no Championship club wants to come next season.”

Manager, Nathan Jones has described Morris’ arrival as “a statement signing” and will “add real quality” to the squad.

Acknowledging Morris’ struggles for consistent game time throughout his career, Jones added: “No-one has seen the best of Carlton Morris yet, and we believe we can get the best out of him. He’ll add to the pace and power that we have.

“He’s got good pedigree and experience for a 26-year-old, but he can still develop. He’ll give us great options up front, and with what we have now, we believe we have as good a strike force as any in the division.”
