Newcastle United have finalised their 2022-23 pre-season schedule with confirmation of three further friendly fixtures.
Eddie Howe’s Magpies will begin their pre-season on Saturday 9 July with a behind-closed-doors friendly against local rivals, Gateshead on Saturday 9 July at Newcastle United Training Centre, Whitley Park, North Tyneside.
This friendly clash will also see Newcastle reunited with their former centre-back, Mike Williamson who is now manager of Gateshead, having spent six years at St James’ Park between 2010-16 and then finished his career with the Heed in 2020 where he is now manager.
Newcastle will then head to Austria for a week-long training camp, which will include friendlies against 1860 Munich and Mainz 05 on Friday 15 and Monday 18 July at 6pm and 5pm CEST (5 & 4pm UK Time) respectively.
Tickets for both friendly fixtures in Austria will be announced in due course via http://www.nufc.co.uk with the clash against 1860 Munich played at SaalfeldenArena Burgerau, whilst their friendly against Mainz will take place at Kufstein Arena.
Upon returning from Austria, Newcastle will conclude their pre-season with an away trip to Benfica on Tuesday 26 July at 8pm CEST (7pm BST), followed by already confirmed home matches against Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao on 29 and 30 July at 7:45pm and 3pm BST respectively.
Newcastle have confirmed that tickets for their two home friendlies will be made available on Tuesday 5 July at book.nufc.co.uk for supporters.
Confirmation of their pre-season schedule completes a busy month for Newcastle, which has seen Matt Targett and Nick Pope both sign for the club on permanent transfers from Aston Villa and Burnley respectively.
Sven Botman meanwhile is close to completing his transfer from LOSC Lille following agreement of a deal for an undisclosed fee yesterday (28 June).
