Burnley have signed Scott Twine from MK Dons for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Twine began his career with Swindon Town where he graduated through their Academy system and made his senior debut on the final day of 2016-17 season in a 3-0 defeat away at Charlton Athletic, before spending the following season on loan twice at Chippenham Town.
Further loans at Waterford and Chippenham followed across 2018-20 seasons with eight goals in 23 appearances, whilst he managed to score twice in 29 appearances for Swindon across both campaigns when not out on loan.
Twine’s breakthrough season eventually came in 2020-21 season with seven goals in 25 appearances which led him to switch to League One rivals, MK Dons on a free transfer in June 2021.
It was at MK Dons last season where Twine finally flourished with 20 goals and 13 assists in 50 first-team appearances, which ultimately saw him crowned League One’s Player of the Year at this Spring’s EFL Awards despite the Dons losing in the promotion play-offs.
Speaking about his decision to sign for Burnley, Twine said: “I am buzzing. I have definitely made the right decision joining Burnley.
“I spoke in depth with the manager and his plans are exciting, it was a no brainer for me to sign. I can’t wait to get started and it feels like the right place for me.”
Twine is the first official signing of new Clarets manager, Vincent Kompany who was “delighted” to sign the 22 year-old midfielder as he added: “He’s an exciting young player that will help us in the short-term process and in the long-term project at Burnley Football Club.
“He’s a player we have looked at for a little while now, we know he can score goals and affect games. We’re glad to welcome him to the squad.”
Twine could make his debut for Burnley away to Huddersfield on Friday 29 July live on Sky Sports in the opening match of 2022-23 Sky Bet Championship season, with his home debut set to come on weekend of 6-8 August against Luton Town.
