West Bromwich Albion have signed Jed Wallace from Millwall on a free transfer.

Wallace began his career at Non-League Farnborough before he joined Lewes briefly, only to be quickly signed by Portsmouth in Summer 2011 on a professional contract where he spent four seasons amidst a short loan spells at Farnborough then Whitehawk.

Upon departing Portsmouth in May 2015, Wallace endured two tough seasons at Wolves with just one goal in 24 appearances, during which he was loaned out to Millwall during 2015-16 then 16-17 seasons where he eventually joined permanently in June 2017.

It was at the Den where Wallace ultimately flourished with 44 goals in 260 appearances whilst also helping the club clinch promotion from League One in 2016-17 via play-offs with a narrow Play-Off Final victory over Bradford City.

Wallace has however decided not to renew his contract which expires on 30 June and instead join West Brom on a free transfer, which will be officially finalised once his contract at Millwall has expired.

Millwall issued the following statement paying tribute to Wallace for his services to the club over the last six years: “Jed departs as a Lions legend and everyone at the club wishes him the very best, and thanks him for his sterling service in SE16.

“He has been a superb servant to Millwall Football Club with his exemplary personality on and off the pitch and will forever hold a special place in the club’s history.”

West Brom manager, Steve Bruce meanwhile is “absolutely delighted” to sign Wallace who he vowed “… will be a massive asset to our team,” as the Baggies look to challenge for promotion this season.

Bruce went on to admit that he had been keen to try and sign Wallace at previous clubs over the years as he added: “He is somebody who I’ve admired for a long time and have tried to sign before. He’s got pace, power, penetration in the final third and, above all, is a top pro.”

Wallace is West Brom’s second signing of this summer’s transfer window  after John Swift who has joined from Reading, with Bruce hailing their arrivals as “terrific” business ahead of pre-season.
