2021-22 Premier League: Week 38 – Leicester vs Southampton

Leicester City welcome Southampton to the King Power Stadium in a dead rubber match on the final day of 2021-22 Premier League season.

Victory will see Leicester finish eighth if Wolves lose at Liverpool, whilst Southampton will secure 15th with a win.

Youri Tielemans could return for Leicester after recovering from a knee injury which saw him sit out Thursday’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

James Justin (illness) could also feature but Ryan Bertrand and Wilfried Ndidi (both knee) remain absent.

Southampton will be without Romain Perraud after he suffered a foot injury which forced him to miss Tuesday’s defeat against Liverpool.

Fraser Forster (back) and Valentino Livramento (knee) remain absent.

Prediction

Having gained four points from two contrastable away performances in the last week, Leicester come into this match with some positive momentum after an injury-hit season but they did incredibly well to dig deep defensively against Chelsea on Thursday despite getting outplayed.

Southampton meanwhile were simply beaten by a top team in Liverpool at home on Tuesday evening but can take heart from how they managed to take the initial lead, which is something that they can look to build upon here even if there isn’t anything to play for.

Leicester though will have motivation of needing a win to finish in the top ten in order to retain their top-six placing on three-season average, which could be important in terms of their fixture schedule next season so I expect them to come out and look to chase a strong home win.
