BBC and talkSPORT have retained audio commentary rights to Premier League matches across the next three seasons.

This announcement means that BBC and talkSPORT will continue to broadcast radio coverage of Premier League matches until the end of 2024-25 season.

BBC have won four of the seven packages which will see them provide commentary of four matches per matchweek on weekends, across the following slots;

  • Saturday (3pm, 1st pick).
  • Saturday (5:30pm)
  • Sunday (2:00pm)
  • Sunday (4:30pm)

Director of BBC Sport, Barbara Slater was “delighted” that the broadcaster retained three of their current radio commentary slot, although BBC have unfortunately lost rights to Friday and Monday Night Football plus displaced fixtures played in midweek which have instead been awarded to talkSPORT.

talkSPORT will also provide commentary of Saturday lunchtime games as well as second pick of matches which are scheduled for 3pm on Saturdays.

President of Broadcasting at News UK EVP, Scott Taunton spoke of the announcement as a sign of how the radio broadcaster has “consolidated” its place as “the Premier League’s only national commercial radio partner, retaining our position as the GameDay destination on Saturday, as well as gaining new live fixtures during the week.”

Taunton also paid tribute to talkSPORT’s commentary teams as he added: “Our commentary teams across talkSPORT and talkSPORT2 are providing best-in-class live coverage to millions of football fans across the UK.”

Premier League Chief Media Officer, Paul Molnar meanwhile stated that the league is “very pleased” to extend their partnership with BBC and talkSPORT for three further seasons.

Praising the coverage quality across both radio broadcasters, Molnar continued: “The quality in coverage from both broadcasters over the years has been excellent, and we look forward to working with them again for the next three seasons.”

This announcement comes after Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime extended their televisual contracts last August, albeit with approval of the UK Government.
