2021-22 Premier League: Week 33 – Tottenham vs Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur continue their chase of a top four finish as Antonio Conte’s Spurs host Brighton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With the top three all on FA Cup duty this weekend, victory would see Spurs move to within two points of third-placed Chelsea.

Brighton can climb to tenth with at least one point because Crystal Palace aren’t in action until midweek due to their involvement in the FA Cup semi-finals this weekend.

Tottenham have no fresh injury concerns following last weekend’s win at Aston Villa as Oliver Skipp (groin), Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga (both knee) remain ruled out.

Brighton have no fresh injury concerns to report after last weekend’s victory at Arsenal as Jakob Moder remains absent with a knee injury.

Stat Attack

  • Tottenham have lost just two of their nine previous Premier League meetings against Brighton (W6, D1, L2).
  • Brighton have lost their last four league visits to Tottenham (L4).
  • Spurs’ Harry Kane has scored three goals in two previous appearances against Brighton this season in all competitions (W2).
  • Son Heung-min has scored four goals in his last three appearances at home for Tottenham (W3).
  • Brighton’s Enock Mwepu has been involved in six league goals in 13 appearances this season, as the Zambia international delivered two goals and provided four assists.

Prediction

Following various results last weekend, Tottenham now come into this match knowing that they have a top-four finish potentially in their own hands because they were simply clinical against Villa and not afraid to pounce on mistakes or poor clearances.

Hugo Lloris meanwhile was excellent in goal to deny Villa whenever they got forward and caused huge issues with their attacking play, which could be crucial if he can continue that form throughout the remainder of this season.

Brighton meanwhile will be relieved to have ended their rut with a well-deserved win at Arsenal where they looked the more confident and adventurous in attack and passes, whilst also delivering an organised defensive effort which included creating attacks from the back.

This game though I feel is Spurs’ to lose not just because of their strong form against Brighton but they’ve finally clicked in their attacking play, yet the key to the result will lie in how resolute Brighton’s defence is now confidence is back and how Tottenham can break them down.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

Result: Tottenham 0-1 Brighton
