Roundup of the last two rounds of Premier League action as the title, top four and relegation battles continue to twist and turn.
Matchweek 30 saw just four matches take place with the race for fourth taking centre-stage due to FA Cup disruption, whilst matchweek 31 saw domestic football commence the run-in following last month’s international break.
Now here is a full roundup from across both matchweeks which saw the table continue to throw up surprises as team battle to secure the best results possible.
Week 30
In a heavily depleted matchweek due to FA Cup action, Arsenal extended their lead over fifth-placed Manchester United to four points as Bukayo Saka fired in a 30th minute winner at Aston Villa.
Tottenham leapfrogged West Ham into sixth in a competitive 3-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as Son Heung-min struck twice with assists from Harry Kane for both of his goals.
Luke Ayling struck an injury-time winner as Leeds came from behind to win 3-2 at 10-man Wolves after Jack Harrison and Rodrigo cancelled out goals from Jonny and Francisco Trincao, with Wolves having led 2-0 when Raul Jimenez was red carded in the 53rd minute.
First-half strikes from Timothy Castagne and James Maddison fired Leicester to a 2-1 home victory over Brentford.
Week 31
Weekend
First-half strikes from Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan comfortably saw Man City stay top following a 2-0 victory away at second-bottom Burnley.
Liverpool remain a point behind City in second after goals from Diogo Jota and Fabinho secured a scrappy 2-0 home win against third-bottom Watford.
Vitaly Janelt’s brace either side of goals from Christian Eriksen and Yoane Wissa saw Brentford come from behind to stun third-placed Chelsea 4-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Son Heung-min provided a goal and assist as Tottenham came from behind to thrash Newcastle 5-1 to climb to fourth, with Ben Davies, Matt Doherty, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn also finding the net.
Joachim Andersen provided assists for Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew before Wilfried Zaha’s penalty fired Crystal Palace to a 3-0 home win over Arsenal, which saw Mikel Arteta’s Gunners consequently slip to fifth.
Down in the relegation battle, Everton remain three points clear of the bottom three after Jarrod Bowen fired West Ham to sixth in a 2-1 win for the Hammers, shortly after Mason Holgate had cancelled out Aaron Cresswell’s opener before Michael Keane was red carded for the Toffees.
Norwich remain rock-bottom after they scrapped their way to a goalless draw at Brighton.
Elsewhere, Fred rescued Manchester United a 1-1 draw against Leicester, with the Brazilian equalising just three minutes after Kelechi Iheanacho had headed the Foxes in front.
Ashley Young’s 36th minute own goal following Jonny’s seventh minute opener secured Wolves a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa, despite Ollie Watkins firing in a late penalty for the Villains.
James Ward-Prowse’s 49th minute free-kick rescued Southampton a 1-1 draw at Leeds United after falling behind to Jack Harrison’s poked effort.
Midweek
Second half goals from Jay Rodriguez and Maxwel Cornet saw Burnley fight back to stun Everton 3-2 at Turf Moor, after the Toffees had fought back through Richarlison’s brace of penalties to lead 2-1 following Nathan Collins’ 12th minute opener for the Clarets.
The result now means that Burnley moved above Watford into 18th position and now sit a single point below Everton.
