A huge matchweek of Premier League action saw title and survival deficits reduced in the first full matchweek since early December.

Aymeric Laporte’s 65th minute header saw Manchester City fight back to snatch a 1-1 draw at Southampton, having fallen behind to a seventh minute strike from the Saints’ Kyle Walker-Peters.

Their title lead consequently was cut to nine points after Liverpool clinched a 3-1 away win at Crystal Palace, as Andrew Robertson set up goals from Virgil Van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain before Fabinho’s late penalty sealed victory.

Chelsea stay third after claiming four points in this matchweek as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 rescheduled midweek draw at Brighton, before defeating Tottenham and their ex boss – Antonio Conte 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Marcus Rashford’s injury-time strike from Edinson Cavani’s low cross saw Manchester United defeat West Ham to claim fourth from the Hammers, just days after Ralf Rangnick’s Red Devils won 3-1 at Brentford in a rearranged midweek clash.

Down in the relegation zone, Josh Sargent’s brace either side of a floodlight failure coupled with Juraj Kucka’s injury-time own goal saw Norwich move out of the bottom three at Watford’s expense in Friday Night Football.

Jonjo Shelvey’s 75th minute free-kick saw Newcastle stun Leeds United at Elland Road for just their second win of the season, in turn lifting Eddie Howe’s Magpies above Watford into 18th and a point off safety.

Burnley remain rock-bottom as they stubbornly clung on for a goalless draw at Arsenal during which they only registered one shot on target.

Elsewhere, Duncan Ferguson’s return as interim manager of Everton ended in a narrow home defeat, as Emiliano Buendia headed in a first-half injury-time winner for Aston Villa just before home fans threw bottles onto the pitch and struck Lucas Digne plus Matty Cash.

Joao Moutinho provided a second half goal and assist as Wolves edged out Brentford 2-1 in a competitive clash marred by a drone incident, as the Portuguese opened the scoring before setting up Ruben Neves’ winner after his goal was cancelled out by Ivan Toney.

Finally, Leicester bounced back from a dramatic late midweek 3-2 home loss to Tottenham with a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton, as Patson Daka opened the scoring in both matches for the Foxes.
