2021-22 Sky Bet Championship: Week 40 – Tuesday

Sheffield United welcome QPR to Bramall Lane in a crunch rearranged Sky Bet Championship clash.

Victory could lift Paul Heckingbottom’s Blades as high as fourth in the table, whereas QPR can leapfrog the Blades and go seventh with a win.

Oli McBurnie is set to return up front for Sheffield United after missing Saturday’s defeat at Stoke with a thigh injury.

Jack O’Connell, Charlie Goode, Chris Basham, Jayden Bogle (all knee), David McGoldrick (thigh), Billy Sharp and Rhian Brewster (both hamstring) remain absent.

QPR have no fresh injury concerns to report after Saturday’s loss against Fulham.

David Marshall, Chris Willock (hamstring), Seny Dieng (thigh), Jordan Archer (shoulder) and Joe Walsh (hand) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield Utd have won three of their last five league meetings against QPR (W3, L2).
  • QPR have won just one of their last six league visits to Bramall Lane (W1, D1, L4).
  • Two of Sheffield Utd’s last three wins over QPR came in 2-1 results in February and August 2018.
  • Sheffield United are looking to avoid consecutive league defeats under Paul Heckingbottom for the first time this season, since Heckingbottom returned as manager in late November.
  • QPR are looking to avoid four consecutive league losses for the first time since a seven-match losing run between January – February 2019.

Prediction

Having looked in strong form in late February, Sheffield Utd seems to have hit a shaky rut with just eight points from their last seven matches which means that this match is now a must-win given how tight the play-off race is.

Heckingbottom though surely has to be concerned by the club’s injury crisis because to still be without Sharp during the early stages of this run-in is a huge worry, especially given how lacklustre they were in Saturday’s defeat at Stoke where sloppy finishing proved costly.

QPR meanwhile have won just one of their last six matches and were outclassed by Fulham on Saturday so a huge reaction is required here, otherwise they can begin to kiss goodbye to any chance of a play-off spot.

I am therefore expecting a tough battle between two out-of-form teams but if QPR can find their scoring boots, a draw could be a decent bet.

Prediction: Sheffield United 1-1 QPR

Result: Sheffield United 1-0 QPR
