2021-22 Sky Bet Championship: Week 39 – Friday

Hull City welcome Huddersfield Town to the MKM Stadium in Friday Night Football in the Sky Bet Championship.

Victory would see Hull climb to 18th in the table, whereas Huddersfield can reclaim third with victory and move to within three points of second-placed Bournemouth.

Lewie Coyle is set to return for Hull after recovering from a hamstring injury which has kept him out since February.

Randell Williams (knee) remains absent.

Huddersfield will be without Tino Anjorin after he withdrew from England Under-21s squad during the international break, having felt some after-effects of the ankle injury which impacted him earlier on the season when on loan at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Alex Vallejo, Rolando Aarons (both knee) and Ryan Schofield (shoulder) remain ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Hull have won just one of their last five meetings against Huddersfield (W1, D1, L3).
  • Huddersfield have won just one of their last five league visits to Hull (W1, D1, L3), conceding two goals during each of their three defeats.
  • Hull have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four meetings against Huddersfield.
  • Hull have scored just once and conceded nine goals in their last five home matches – with their only goal during those games scored by Tom Eaves in a 3-1 defeat against Luton.
  • Huddersfield have scored twice in three of their last four away matches, with three of their six goals in those matches scored by Danny Ward.

Prediction

Despite sitting 12 points clear of relegation with seven matches left of this season, Hull are almost safe but their home form has been very disappointing in the last two months with lacklustre finishing being their biggest issue which was apparent in their loss to Luton last time out.

Huddersfield meanwhile hit a mini-slump with five goals conceded in defeats in their last two matches,, so the international break might of just came at the right time to allow them to reset after getting outplayed at home by Bournemouth with poor defending.

This match however marks the start of the run-in where every point matters at both ends of the table so Hull need a positive start here, whereas Huddersfield need to end their Humberside rut and produce a strong performance to reignite their fight for automatic promotion.

On that note, I am going for an away win if Huddersfield are back to their best after having two weeks off to refocus and freshen up, especially after enjoying a strong FA Cup run during a packed few months.

Prediction: Hull 0-2 Huddersfield

Result: Hull 0-1 Huddersfield
