Rico Henry Extends Stay At Brentford Until Summer 2026

Rico Henry has agreed a new long-term contract to stay at Brentford until summer 2026 with a club option to extend his deal until 2027.

Henry first arrived at Brentford in August 2016 after impressing in two seasons at then League One’s Walsall, with the left-back since delivering four goals in 151 appearances across all competitions for the Bees.

During his spell at Brentford, Henry has also featured in last season’s promotion winning team after Thomas Frank’s Bees beat Swansea in the Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium.

This season has again seen Henry continue to be a first-team regular at left-back as he provided two goals in 26 appearances in his first season as a player in the Premier League.

The 24 year-old has now decided to sign a new four-year deal until summer 2026, with the club holding an option to further extend that deal by one additional year to keep him in West London until Summer 2027.

Speaking about Henry’s decision to commit his future to the club, Brentford manager – Thomas Frank said that he is “very pleased” to retain the young left-back, who had initially struggled for game time during his first three seasons at the club due to various injuries.

Frank proceeded to reflect on Henry’s development and stepping up into the Premier League as he said: “Rico has seamlessly made the step up to the Premier League. Defensively he is fantastic, and you can see the way he defends one on one against some great attackers.

“He is also contributing up the field with the way he can arrive in the penalty area, as we have seen this season. There are bits to work on, but it is great that he will continue that development with us.”

Frank also iterated his belief that Henry has the potential to help the club progress to a higher level whilst also having the ability to “develop into a good Premier League player.”

Brentford are next in action on Saturday 2 April as they visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a West-London derby in an untelevised 3pm kick-off.
