Everton continue their fight for survival as Frank Lampard’s Toffees host Wolves at Goodison Park.
Should Leeds fail to win elsewhere then victory would see Everton improve to 16th, whereas Wolves can go sixth with a win if West Ham fail to win elsewhere.
Team News
Ben Godfrey is set to return for Everton after recovering from a hamstring injury which had sidelined him in recent weeks.
Michael Keane, Demarai Gray (both illness) are doubts but Tom Davies, Fabian Delph (both thigh) and Yerry Mina (quad) remain absent.
Wolves have no fresh injury concerns to report after Thursday’s win over Watford as Ki-Jana Hoever and Nelson Semedo remain ruled out with hamstring injuries.
Stat Attack
- Everton have won three of their last five meetings against Wolves (W3, L2).
- Wolves have won just one of seven previous Premier League visits to Goodison Park (W1, D2, L4).
- Alex Iwobi has scored in each of his last two appearances for Everton against Wolves.
- Everton have scored nine goals in four home games under Frank Lampard in all competitions.
- Hwang Hee-Chan has scored three away goals for Wolves this season, of which his last two goals on the road were scored in the tenth minute.
Prediction
Having suffered a demoralising thrashing at Tottenham last weekend with a shambolic defence and midfield largely to blame, Everton simply need one major improvement if they’re to stand any chance here because they currently look like relegation fodder in waiting.
Wolves meanwhile ended their three-match losing streak on Thursday with a ruthlessly clinical demolition of Watford’s defence, despite the game overall being a fairly close match but their finishing and excellent defending proved the difference as the Hornets had no shots on target.
Focusing on this match in hand though, I feel like the result will boil down to which Everton team turn up because if we see a repeat of last weekend, this is Wolves’ to lose but home advantage should at least have the Toffees fired up to try and appease supporters.
I though am plumping for an away win because I just can’t see Everton rebuilding enough confidence to get a win given how passionless their play looks at present.
Prediction: Everton 0-2 Wolves
Result: Everton 0-1 Wolves
