Pedro Neto Signs New Five-Year Contract at Wolves

Pedro Neto has signed a new five-year contract to remain at Wolves until summer 2027.

Neto first joined Wolves in August 2019 from Braga and provided a goal plus assist on debut in a Third Round qualifier against Pyunik in the Europa League, as Wolves eventually went on to be eliminated in the Quarter-Finals.

Last season saw further progress as Neto finished as joint-highest league scorer for Wolves alongside Ruben Neves, having produced five goals whilst he also provided six assists for his teammates.

Neto however spent ten months sidelined after suffering a serious knee injury away at Fulham in April 2021 but has now returned in recent weeks after coming on as a substitute in a 2-1 win over Leicester last month.

The Portugese forward has therefore netted 10 goals in 83 appearances in all competitions for Wolves and also scored once in three international appearances for Portugal, since arriving at Molineux.

Speaking about Neto’s new deal, Wolves’ Technical Director, Scott Sellars said: “It’s great news for the football club and Pedro. It’s a deserved reward for him, he’s returned from injury and put in a lot of hard work to get back, so it’s good for all parties.”

Reflecting on the 22 year-old striker’s progress, Sellars commented that Neto arrived “with a lot of potential” and has since “fulfilled that potential, become a full international, and an established Premier League player – people have spoken globally about his performances for Wolves.”

Sellars therefore iterated the importance of tying Neto down to a new long-term contract, as he continued: “It’s a no-brainer for the club to retain its talent and hopefully it was a no-brainer for Pedro to stay longer and work hard in an environment he’s comfortable and happy in.”

Neto’s commitment to recovering from his knee injury and a subsequent setback was also praised by Sellars as he commented: “It was difficult for him, he had a setback along the way, but as Pedro always does, he got his head down and worked hard with a smile on his face.

“He’s committed to being the best he can be and that shows with how quickly he’s got back into his groove, but we think there’s a lot more to come.”

Sellars added that there won’t be any pressure on Neto to rediscover his previous quality and form immediately, instead insisting that patience will be required.

Anticipating when fans could see Neto back to his best, Sellars teased: “He’s been out for a long time, but we’ve got no doubt he’ll be back to the Pedro we know, whether that’s towards the end of the season or the start of the next one, there’s no rush, we just want to make sure he has minutes and is developing.”
