2021-22 UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg – Liverpool vs Inter Milan

Liverpool welcome Inter Milan to Anfield in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie in 2021-22 UEFA Champions League.

With a 2-0 lead from the first leg at the San Siro, Liverpool will qualify with a win, draw or even an one goal defeat.

Inter Milan meanwhile must win and ideally by three goals without conceding if they’re to advance, although a 2-0 result in the regulatory 90 minutes would be enough to force extra-time and potentially penalties.

Roberto Firmino could return for Liverpool after he missed their last five matches with a muscle injury.

Joel Matip (illness) could return but Thiago Alcantara (hamstring) remains absent.

Inter Milan have a near full squad available for selection as Ivan Perisic is their only doubt, having withdrawn from Friday’s Serie A win over Salernitana with a muscle injury.

Prediction

Liverpool might of scraped a win over West Ham on Saturday but they weren’t at their clinical best on the attack in a super scrappy battle, which was evident by several late clearances after their high defensive line kept getting caught out.

Inter Milan are coming into this leg with everything to do but having thrashed Salernitana 5-0 in Serie A last Friday evening, they can come to Anfield knowing that a repeat performance would be enough but Liverpool are much tougher opposition so it won’t be easy.

I am therefore expecting a hard fight but Inter’s away form in Europe this season hasn’t exactly been electric so if Liverpool are back to their best, I can see just one result coming because Inter won’t have much to withstand Liverpool’s attacking quality.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Inter Milan

Result: Liverpool 0-1 Inter Milan (Liverpool win 2-1 on aggregate!!)
