AlphaTauri have unveiled their AT03 car which will contest the 2022 F1 season with Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda again at the wheel.
AlphaTauri have retained their pre-dominantly blue livery on the sidepods albeit with the bottom half now display a white colour scheme, which is also the new colour of their cockpit area plus front and rear wings after running dark blue colours on last season’s AT02 car.
Further changes sees the AT03 not copy Aston Martin and McLaren’s approach to the rear wing end with the rear wing leaned more forward, instead of sloped like on the Aston Martin and McLaren cars.
The sidepods are also shorter with a much longer front nose which will likely be a key area of the car for their rivals to monitor in terms of performance in pre-season testing.
AlphaTauri however only unveiled a ‘3D CGI rendering of the car’ meaning that fans have to wait until the opening pre-season test in Barcelona, Spain between 23-25 February to get a proper glimpse, despite the event being held behind closed doors with no fans in attendance.
On what he is expecting from the new car this season following changes in technical regulations, Gasly said: “This year sees a huge change to the car as, due to the new regulations, the look and design is completely different, so the team has had to start from a clean sheet of paper.
“We won’t know the true performance of the AT03 until we get it out on track at pre-season testing in Barcelona but so far, I think it looks great and I am very excited to get this new season started!”
Tsunoda meanwhile described the car as “great” but iterated that he won’t get carried away until he drives the car in the first pre-season test in Barcelona, Spain, but is happy with how “really cool” the new shape and design of the car is looking from outside of the cockpit perspective.
AlphaTauri Team Principal, Franz Tost meanwhile is looking to build on a strong 2021 season which saw the team finish sixth in the constructors’ standings, with Gasly picking up a third-placed finish in Azerbaijan.
Explaining what he is hoping to achieve this season, Tost said: It is a completely new era for F1 and we hope that this package will be very strong, following last year’s success.”
AlphaTauri worked closely with their fashion label on the digital launch video, which also saw a preview of AlphaTauri’s Spring & Summer 2022 fashion collection with AlphaTauri CEO, Ahmet Mercan “excited” about the new era for the team on and off track in terms of style.
