Ashley Cole has joined Everton as a First-Team coach under Frank Lampard who took over as manager earlier this week.
Cole previously played alongside Lampard at Chelsea for eight seasons between 2006-14 in which they both won nine honours together as players, whilst also playing together as England teammates between 2001 – 14.
The ex Chelsea fullback has also twice served as a coach under Lampard in the latter’s managerial spells at Derby and Chelsea between June 2018 – January 2021.
Last year saw Cole appointed Assistant Manager of England Under-21 squad alongside Head Coach – Lee Carsley, with the 41 year-old expected to also continue in the role during international breaks.
Speaking about his decision to reunite with Lampard at Goodison Park, Cole said: “I was thrilled when Frank asked me to join him at Everton. This is a brilliant opportunity with a fantastic club and I am coming here to work hard and try to help bring success to Everton.
“The chance to link up again with Frank was another huge draw. He is an excellent manager and leader. With the rest of the staff here, we have everything in place for what we want to achieve together.”
Lampard meanwhile is “delighted” to welcome Cole to his coaching team alongside Joe Edwards (Assistant Manager) plus Cole’s fellow new First-Team coaches, Paul Clement and Chris Jones although Jones is also Everton’s new Head of Performance.
Explaining his decision to bring Cole on-board and what his former teammate can bring to the Toffees, Lampard said: “He is now a well-respected coach which has been recognised by his work with England Under-21s.
He’ll bring a wealth of enthusiasm, game-play experience and is a very good young coach who adds strength to our coaching staff.”
Everton legend, Duncan Ferguson has also stayed on at the club as Assistant Manager with Lampard’s first official match in charge taking place on Saturday 5 February, as Everton host Brentford at Goodison Park in a 3pm GMT kick-off.
