Barcelona have signed Adama Traore on loan from Wolves with an option to make the move permanent.
Traore began his career at Barcelona where he graduated through their youth academy up to the senior team, where he scored one goal in four first-team appearances between 2013-15 during which he struggled for first-team opportunities.
A move to Aston Villa followed in August 2015 where Traore struggled for game time with one goal in just 12 appearances, which led to him joining Middlesbrough where he managed five goals in 71 appearances before his move to Molineux in August 2018.
Traore eventually flourished under the management of Nuno Espirito Santo then Bruno Lage at Wolves with 11 goals in 154 appearances, with excellent pace and dribbling skills which has made him a threat on the flank on top of his versatility to play on both flanks.
Speaking about Traore’s decision to return to Barcelona, Wolves’ Technical Director – Scott Sellars praised the 26 year-old for his “utmost professionalism”, despite failing to be “able to agree a new contract” following lengthy “protracted negotiations” as he chased a move elsewhere.
Sellars proceeded to speak highly of Traore’s decision to return to Barcelona as he commented: “Everyone knows Barcelona is a city, and club, very close to Adama’s heart, so it is a dream move for him.
“We have also agreed a very healthy option in the deal should Barcelona wish to make the move permanent this summer.”
Concluding Wolves’ statement, Sellars added: “We wish Adama the best of luck in Spain, and hope that he plays regularly, has great success and shows everyone what he is capable of.”
Barcelona will pay Traore’s wages with an option to convert the loan deal into a permanent transfer at end of season.
Traore could make his first appearance for Barcelona since his return as the Catalonian club faces Atletico Madrid at Nou Camp on Sunday 6 February in La Liga.
Traore’s final goal for Wolves came in a 3-1 home win over Southampton in the Premier League earlier this month.
