Aston Villa have sent Cameron Archer out on loan to Preston North End until end of 2021-22 season.
Archer graduated through Villa’s Youth Academy before making six senior appearances across 2019-20 and 21-22 seasons so far in all competitions, either side of a loan spell last season at National League’s Solihull Moors where he netted six goals in 29 appearances.
Villa boss, Steven Gerrard however has greenlit a loan move for Archer to join Preston to continue his development until end of season, with the 20 year-old having netted 14 goals in 11 appearances across the first-team and Under-21 squad this season.
Speaking about his move, Archer commented that he has enjoyed his “good journey” at Villa but is eager to prove himself whilst on loan at Preston and gain experience.
Archer also added that he is prepared for life in the Sky Bet Championship after spending last season in Non League football with Solihull Moors, as he added: “I’m excited, I’m ready for the challenge and can’t wait to get started.”
Preston manager, Ryan Lowe added that he is “absolutely delighted” to sign Archer on loan after monitoring the youngster in recent months, describing him as “a natural goalscorer” who he can’t wait to coach in the latter half of this season.
Lowe though iterated that Preston fans can forget any possibility of the club signing him if he is a success whilst on loan.
“His objective will be to play for the Aston Villa first team in the future and we want to help him do that, but his objective now until the end of the season will be to help Preston North End finish as high up the table as possible.” said Lowe about Archer’s future plans.
Archer will wear the number 21 shirt and could make his debut in Wednesday’s rearranged Championship tie away at West Bromwich Albion.
