Hitech GP have announced that Marcus Armstrong will join the team for the 2022 F2 season.
Since finishing as 2019 F3 Vice-Champion, Armstrong has endured two frustrating seasons in F2 in which he only finished 13th overall in 2020 & 21 seasons with ART GP and DAMS respectively, which included one race victory which came in Saudi Arabia last month.
This move will also see Armstrong reunite with Hitech GP Team Principal, Oliver Oakes, who had played a part in bringing Armstrong across to the European racing scene in 2016.
Armstrong also participated in the 2021 Post-Season Test for Hitech GP where he finished in the top nine in two of the three days of testing.
Speaking about his decision to join Hitech GP, Armstrong said: “I’m really pleased to be joining Hitech this season in Formula 2. Team Principal Oliver Oakes brought me to Europe a few years back and I saw Hitech in the early days.
“Since then, it’s transformed into one of the powerhouses of Formula 2 and 3. I’m looking forward to be working with a successful group of people and a completely new team this year.”
This season will also mark the first campaign since 2016 in which Armstrong isn’t a member of Ferrari Driver Academy, having been dropped from the programme due to poor results in last two seasons.
Armstrong will partner Juri Vips this season and drive the number seven car whilst confirmation of his drive means that just five seats remain vacant ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain from 2-4 March.
